Operating an ATA Carnet...

Using a Carnet is quite straight forward. Firstly you need to open the Carnet, this normally costs about £5.00, which you have to do in person or via a nominated person. This can be done at the airport or port. It’s advised that you check your departure point before you arrive to find where you should go to open this.

Once you have all your items proceed to the Customs Declaration channel. Present your Carnet, and Customs officials will inspect your goods. It is prudent to allow at least an hour for this, or to expect customs to check every single item. Make sure you have a stamp in and a stamp out.
